AIR CONDITIONER:

Air conditioning (often referred to as A/C, AC or aircon) is the process

of altering the properties of air (primarily temperature and humidity) to
more comfortable conditions, typically with the aim of distributing the
conditioned air to an occupied space to improve thermal comfort and
indoor air quality.

Development of Air conditioner:

In 1820, English scientist and inventor Michael Faraday discovered
that compressing and liquefying ammonia could chill air when the
liquefied ammonia was allowed to evaporate.
In 1902, the first modern electrical air conditioning unit was invented
by Willis Carrier in Buffalo.
The first air conditioners and refrigerators employed toxic or
flammable gases, such as ammonia, methyl chloride, or propane, that
could result in fatal accidents when they leaked. Thomas Midgley, Jr.
created the first non-flammable, non-toxic chlorofluorocarbon gas,
Freon, in 1928.

Construction:
Refrigerant circuit components: Circulates refrigerant for
absorption and radiation of heat. (Comp. evaporator, condenser,
capillary tube etc.).
Fan section: Cool air distribution (indoor), radiation of heat (outdoor)
(Fan, fan motor, etc) in cooling mode.
Electrical parts: Controls for A/C (remote controller, printed circuit
boards, wiring, etc.)
Others: Casing, air filter, etc.

Impacts, Advantages & Disadvantages:

Power consumption: Innovation in air conditioning technologies
continues, with much recent emphasis placed on energy efficiency.

Production of the electricity used to operate air conditioners has an

environmental impact, including the release of greenhouse gasses.

Health issues: Conversely, air conditioning (including filtration,
humidification, cooling and disinfection) can be used to provide a
clean, safe, hypoallergenic atmosphere in hospital operating rooms
and other environments where an appropriate atmosphere is critical
to patient safety and well-being.
Process applications: Process applications aim to provide a
suitable environment for a process being carried out, regardless of
internal heat and humidity loads and external weather conditions.
