The most common source of corrosion in boiler systems is dissolved gas: oxygen, carbon
dioxide and ammonia. Of these, oxygen is the most aggressive. The degree of oxygen attack
depends on the concentration of dissolved oxygen, the pH and the temperature of the water.
The basic assumption with regard to the quality of feed water is that calcium and magnesium
hardness, migratory iron, migratory copper, colloidal silica and other contaminants have been
reduced to a minimum, consistent with boiler design and operation parameters.
Apart from preparing the water for boiler, the water treatment plant will carry many tests that
lead the co-gen plant safe and efficient. Some of those tests are as follows.
Bagasse Test:
The difference between the initial weight and final weight will be the moisture contents of
bagasse.
Moisture content = (Initial weight (100gms)) (Final weight)
Phosphate Test for Drum Water:
Take 10 ml of drum water.
Keep it in spectrophotometer and make it zero.
Add phosphate reagent to the sample.
