Activity #1- Craft- Smelly Valentine
o Materials-

Early Childhood Learning Pac for Valentines Day 2013


Two paper hearts cut from pink or red paper
Yarn (cut from fingertip to fingertip by teacher)
Handful of cotton balls
Two or three different types of perfume.
o Step by Step Instructions Cut the hearts out the day before (teacher or teachers aid)
Punch out holes around the edge about two fingers width apart
Have the students sew two hearts together leaving an opening to put
the cotton balls through
Spray a handful of cotton balls with one perfume of the students
choosing
Have the students stuff the cotton balls into the hearts
Have the students finish sewing
Punch a hole in the top
Have the students attach yarn so it can be hung
o Closure Who are you going to give your valentine to?
o Transition to Activity #2 Have the students find there shape on the circular rug.
Activity #2- Circle time
Finger Play- Five Little Valentines One little valentine said, I love you. (Hold up one finger)
Nolan made another; then there were two. (Hold up 2 fingers)
Two little valentine, one for me;
Lindsey made another; then there were three. (Hold up 3
fingers)
Three little valentines said, We need one more.
Jacob made another; then there were four. (Hold up 4 fingers)
Four little valentine, one more to arrive;
Emma made another; then there were five. (Hold up 5
fingers.)
Five little valentines, all ready to say,
Be my valentine on this happy day.
o Closure Do show and tell bag Have the student who took it how bring the bag to you.
Then take the toys out of the bag and ask them what it is.
Ask if they want to take the toys into the other room.

o If they say no the have them take it in to the backpack
room and put it away.
o Transition into Activity #3 Hold up each of the students last name and if they know its theirs
they can go into the computer room.
Activity #3- Math W.S.
o Valentines Count Have the child write their first name on the back of the page
in between the lines
Count all the items and then have them write the answer in
the box to the right
o Closure Have them pick out a sticker from the ones on your table and have
them put it on their paper.
o Transition into Activity #4 Have the students find there shape on the square rug.
Activity #4- Story Time
o The Powerpuff Girls: The Valentines Day Mix-up by Laura Dower
o Closure Call out colors for the shapes they sit on and as they get up they have
to get magic soap aka hand sanitizer.
o Transition to Activity #5 While going to the snack room, have the kids skip.
Activity #5- Snack Time
o Materials for snack Liter of Fruit Punch
2 liter of Ginger Ale
A dozen heart shaped sugar cookies (bought or made in advance)
Valentines Day themed sprinkles
White and/or pink icing
o Valentine Punch Mix together fruit punch (1 liter) and ginger ale (1/2 of a two liter).
o Valentine Cookies Put the cookies and sprinkles at one table
Call the children to the sprinkle table two or three at a time
Give each child one cookie
Let them put on the icing with a spatula
Let them sprinkle on the sprinkles they like
When everyone has decorated a cookie, they can eat

o Closure Have the children clean up their own mess and line up by the door to
go up to the play room.
o Transition to Activity #6 Go up to the play room.
Activity #6- Exercise Time
o Play the game Army, Navy, Hit the Dirt Say the Words- Army, Navy, Hit the Dirt- in order
When you say Army, they run on their toes.
When you say Navy, they walk on their knees
When you say Hit the Dirt, they fall to the floor.
o Closure Have the children feel their heart beat.
o Finial Closure Have the children line up.
Then they can go down stairs to their waiting parent(s).
