Case 5

Dry air at ambient conditions of 20C and 101 kPa, enters the compressor.
The pressure of the air is increased to 608 kPa. in the compressor. The
isentropic efficiency of the compressor is 0.76. The air leave the compressor
is mixed with ethane that enters at 15C and 608 kPa. The methane flow rate
is adjusted so that the combustion reaction uses 300% excess air. The
combustion products are expanded in a turbine with an isentropic efficiency
of 0.83. A generator mounted on the same shaft as the turbine and the
compressor produces 500 kW of electrical power with a generator efficiency
of 0.92. Pressure and thermal losses in the piping can be neglected in this
analysis.

Determine (a) the balanced reaction equation. the exergy flow, exergy
destroyed and exergy efficiency of each components of the cycle.

C2H6+3.5O2+3.53.76N2= 2CO2+3H2O+3.53.766N2
C2H6+43.5O2+43.53.76N2= 2CO2+3H2O+33.5O2+43.53.76N2
