Power System Stability


A function of fast protective relaying
PSS is used to provide damping to prevent
power system oscillations
Provide damping via excitation control
PSS has little effect on first swing stability, but
restores damping lost by adding high initial
response excitation systems
Many different stabilizing schemes exist - focus
on integral of accelerating power
