I want to thank all of the tutors for

volunteering their time and
helping improve the lives of our
learners. This newsletter is full of

the many activities that are

planned for the coming year. I
hope that all of you can
participate in as many of them as
possible. They are a great help to
us in obtaining the funds needed
to provide you and your learners
with the educational materials
that you need. If you have a
suggestion as to a fund raising
event or a way to improve our
organization, please call the
office and let LuzMa know about
it. Please remember to submit
your monthly reports and
mention our organization to
anyone who might be interested.

Welcome Debbie!
Our new staff member is
Deborah Andersen. She is a
local Ft. Pierce resident. She
is in charge of the Language
Computer Lab, and will
cover the office when the
Director is out for meetings,
vacation, etc.
She brings with her prior
experience in fund-raising.
She has helped with the
Silent Auction baskets for
Feast for Literacy, the Tee to
Read Golf tournament and
others.
She recently
attended the Tutor Training
Workshop and has started
tutoring a learner. She also
is helping maintain an up to
date data base from which

we can seek financial support of our

fund
raisers. We are pleased to
have Debbie and look forward her
contributions to make Learn to Read a
success.

A Learners Story by Kelsie Cheyenne Handshoe

Anyone who knows
me knows how much
I love my family,
especially these two.
My papaw has been
working so hard to
learn how to learn
to
read and write.
With my uncle Ralph
wise teaching, he
passed the first level
of his class, receiving
this diploma. Of

course they had to

shake hands just
like people do at
graduations.
This
makes me full of
overwhelming pride
and joy. My heart is
full of love for these
two! Miss them more
and more everyday.

and Billie Faye Pratt.

dedication.
Learn To Read Makes a Difference Everyday
Volunteering can affect the lives of our learners and
also our tutors.
Former tutor, Beth Jones began tutoring in 2005 and
enjoyed it so much that she enrolled in IRSC and

2014. Now she is full time teacher with the St. Lucie
