IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE

COMPETITION
Please retain this portion of the form for your own reference.
Havering Music School hosts two annual competitions. The Junior
Musicians Festival event is to be held in the Summer Term, and
recognising that it is a celebration of the musical talent of young people
in the borough, it is now called HAVERING JUNIOR MUSICIANS
FESTIVAL. It is for school age students, in two categories: Year 11 and
under and Year 7 and under. Candidates in each class perform two
pieces in an informal setting, in the presence of an invited mentor.
This event aims to encourage students to strive for their highest
personal standards of technique and musicianship.
Prizes are
generously donated by local sponsors.
ENTRIES
Entries are now invited for the JUNIOR MUSICIANS FESTIVAL 2015.
This annual competition is open to solo singers and instrumentalists
(including percussion). There will be TWO classes.
CLASS A: Age limit - Year 11 and under
CLASS B: Age limit - Year 7 and under
There is no set minimum standard for either class, but as a rough
guide, performers in class A are usually of around grade 4+, those in
class B grade 2+. However any student who can perform two pieces to
concert standard will be welcome to take part, on their teachers
recommendation.
To be eligible, a candidate must be either a pupil at a school in Havering
or living in the Borough during the academic year 2014/15.
If you won a Residential Course Prize or the Title Cup at a previous
Havering Young Musician event or if you won the title shield in a
previous Havering Junior Musician Festival, you will be ineligible for
entry to the Havering Junior Musicians Festival.

WORKSHOPS
All entrants will be required to take part in a performance class to be

Each candidate should be prepared to perform two contrasting pieces,

which should be original works or idiomatic arrangements for the

An accompanist will be available on the day, though students are
encouraged to make their own arrangements, to allow for prior
rehearsal. A copy of the music should be available for the mentors use.
Each day will be divided into a number of sessions. Entrants must be
present for the entire nominated session. Family and friends are
very welcome to attend. If you are unable to attend either day
please send in a cover letter with your entry form.
Candidates may offer two or more instruments. In this case a separate
entry must be made for each. You may be required to perform on all
instruments on the same day, or you may be asked to attend separate
workshops, depending upon entry numbers.
