I follow Chris Brown, the senior weatherman, on

the morning announcements, because I saw his
twitter name posted on the bottom of the screen
during the announcements one day. Since I see him
reporting the daily weather, I assumed hed tweet
about the weather. But, actuality, he does
not tweet about the weather at all, but
more about technology updates and other
school related activities. -Emma Coen, 11.

Snack Savvy. I was so upset when they got

rid of all the snacky junk food in the vending
machines, so Im happy that they have good
stuff. When I was a freshman and
sophomore, they sold these snacks all the time,
and Ive missed it -Garrett Kilgore,12.
The Daily Buy. Im enjoying the school store
because it actually has food that people enjoy. I
work there once a week, and its great seeing all
the business we get some days. On a normal basis
people come to buy their favorite snacks, once or
twice a week -Ashley Anderson,10.

harder this year

Tracking Transactions. I like working in the

school store. Its definitely a perk because it gets me
out of class, and opening the school store back up
was a good idea. Ive worked concession stands
at baseball fields so exchanging dollar bills and
change is easy for me.-Garrett Walraven,10.

much better than ice cream, and I can get a lot of

so I got some for my friends and I.

Mrs. Simons Extra Credit

Mrs. Simon gave her AP Art History class the task of taking a famous
painting and changing it in some way. Sophomore Anna Iyengar and
junior Samuel Stover decided to satirize the famous paintings, American
Gothic by Grant Wood and Folio 15 of the Coronation Gospels by Saint
Matthew. In return for completing this project, their grade would be
boosted. I changed the house in the back into a cake and instead of
the man holding a pitchfork, I made my dad hold a regular fork, said
Iyengar. She came about her inspiration as she had just finished eating the
pastry herself. Iyenger enjoyed making the photo, but wished she couldve
edited in the cake so that it would fit the picture more proportionally.
Stover, on the other hand, wouldnt change a thing about
his masterpiece. He conjured inspiration by flipping
through a book and seeing this guy who looked like he
was falling asleep said Stover. The differences between
the two portraits reflect the disparity in their artists
work ethic. Stover had fallen asleep from exhaustion
while in the original picture the man is working quite
diligently.

Sensation

I started
rapping in 2nd
grade when I
performed in my
schools talent
show. When
people started
pointing out how
much they liked
the songs I made
for the morning
announcements,
I got more
involved. In 9th
grade, I started
performing
in national
competitions in
places like Seattle
and California. I
usually placed in
the top three. I
rap all of my own
pieces, and my
favorite song Ive
made is Livin
the Day, which
is about how I
started my music
and how I am
evolving every
day by doing
what I love

A lifetime lover of robotics, Mr. Bill Fine happily manifests the

history that he and robots share, I have been creating robots for
fifteen years, and in those fifteen years, I have built exactly fifteen
robots myself. The most impressive robot I created accomplished
the task of climbing up a ten-foot tower, picking up the objects at
the top, climbing back down the ten-foot tower, and sorting the
objects in bins, all under three minutes. I am so elated to share the
love of robotics with the students at Whitewater.

Simons Satirizing

the football game gets some new visitors.

As sheets of rain pelted the stadium, freshmen,
clutching umbrellas and decked out in rain ponchos, slowly
filtered up to the back of the student section. The first home
game they would witness as high schoolers, and they would do
so soaking wet, standing on their tiptoes to get a glimpse of the
action above upperclassmen heads. Freshman Steven Ruttinger
recalls that the game was so exciting and nerve wracking, but
its hard to be a freshmen in the student section because youre
the lowest classmen with the worst privileges like having to
stand in the back. As a freshman I look forward to seeing our
team win a lot more, and possibly go to state, as I become an
upperclassman.

Also a newcomer to the spirited hustle and bustle
custom to home games, Governor Nathan Deal did the
honors of flipping the game coin. My daughter works for the
governor, Coach McCreary explains so when the governor
said he was looking for a good ball game to go to, she told him
all about us.

Another group new to the field, the Brooks Bears
Cheerleaders, joined their high school counterparts and helped
to lead on the crowd. Junior Sharity Bayerlein said, It was like
seeing a little sister out there whos following in my footsteps. I
hope they continue to cheer and become elite cheerleaders.

From the little red and white pom-poms of the Brooks
Bears Cheerleaders to the dripping wet student section and
Governor Deals shiny game coin, this football game has truly
started the year off with a bang.

The loss of Truett Cathy, broke the hearts of Chick-fil-a regulars. Senior Amber Hartel
describes Truett as the type of person that gave people hope. He left me wanting to work
hard in everything I do. The shocking news of Truetts passing stunned the south. When I
heard the news I couldnt believe he was gone. Mr. Cathy was an inspiring Christian icon
and I will never forget him, confesses Ari Hughlon. While he touched the hearts of the
community around him, Truett Cathys legacy will always remain the same: the man that
stayed true to his religion. Anna Johnson said, Most people would say that Truett was
amazing because he closed his business on Sunday and while I believe this is true, I think
the fact that he never apologized for being a Christian was more impressive. Even though
such an iconic man has left this earth, his traditions and legacy will live forever in the lives
