An Australian native ventures to the Texas panhandle to live out

her dream and play college basketball.
Maddison Wild, center for the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs,
decided to bring her talents to the U.S. when she was offered a
scholarship to play at West Texas A&M University.
Wild chose to leave her roots and endure strong winds and the
bleak plains of Canyon, Texas. Canyon, located in the Texas Panhandle,
is known for its dry weather and lack of nightlife and extracurricular
activities, but basketball is always there.
I needed a change from what I was used to, and I knew this
would be a way I can still do what I love, Wild said.
Wild is from Epsom, Victoria, Australia where she played
basketball at Girton Grammar School. She helped lead her team and
represent her state as the team ranked in the top 10 all four years she
played. Wild excelled in the BigV Victorian Youth Championship,
averaging a double-double through eight games.
Wild began to shine toward the end of her first season playing as
a true freshman at WTAMU. Averaging 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per
game, Wild was just scratching the surface on what her future would
hold at the collegiate level.
Wild wanted to attend WTAMU to gain a different outlook on
culture, life and build relationships with people she would never have
the opportunity to meet otherwise. Australia is a completely different

atmosphere than Texas, and Wild is enjoying getting familiar with her
surroundings.
It was a culture shock to live somewhere where everyone is so
friendly and says yall all the time, Wild said.
Wild, now a sophomore at WTAMU, has loved every minute of
being in Texas and plans to continue living out her dream one game at
a time.
