Instant Activity: Dynamic warm-up: Students
will be standing on the sideline facing the
other sideline. When I say go, students will
perform a dynamic activity i.e. jogging, high
knees, side-shuffle, monster walks, lunges,
back-pedal, etc.

1 min.

Set Induction:
Today we are going to learn about
cooperative learning. Do you remember

from yesterday what cooperative learning
is?
What do you think are some ways one can
use cooperative learning outside out
physical education?

Purpose:
We are learning about cooperative
learning this week because every group
goal requires teamwork, communication,
and accountability.

1 min. Transition
After the dynamic warm-up, I will have
the students return to homebase, sit,
and wait until further instructions.

11 min. Lesson Core - Task 1:
Wizards and Goblins Tag: The purpose of
the game is for the fairytale creatures
(Elves, Gargoyles, and Trolls) to run across
the land (basketball court) and steal the
treasure (bean bags) and bring it back to
the nest without getting tagged. There
will be 3-4 students chosen as Goblins and
2-3 students who will be chosen as
Wizards. Everyone else is fairytale
creature (Either an elf, gargoyle, or troll
chosen by teacher by numbering off
students 1-3). Goblins can freeze (tag
with a soft foam ball) the other creatures.

Grouping Strategies:
I will choose who are
wizards and who are
goblins. The
remaining students
are the other
fairytale creatures.

Frozen creatures must stay where they
are. Wizards can unfreeze (tag with a
wand) creatures. When creatures are
unfrozen, they must run back to where
they started (home) first before crossing
the land again. If a creature is tagged
holding a treasure with them, they must
hand it over to the goblin and freeze. First
team to capture 10 pieces of treasure
wins.

Demonstration Plan:
I will have 1 student demonstrate as the
goblin, 1 student demonstrate as the
wizard, and 1 student demonstrate as the
fairytale creature. I will guide them as
they run through an example of how the
game should flow.

Questions to Check Understanding
What do Goblins do? Freeze
Wizards? Unfreeze
How should we tag each other?
Gently, above the waist and below the
neck

11 min. Lesson Core - Task 2:
Capture the Flag (Modified): Same rules
apply for the original Capture the flag.
The goal of the game is the same (capture
the flag and bring it back to your teams
side) except there will be a tennis ball,
foam ball, cones, and a nerf football to
capture. There will be 2 teams, each team
wearing a colored penny. When a student
is tagged on the opposing side, the
student has to go off to the side and
perform one of the following: 20 jumping
jacks, 10 pushups, or 1 lap around the
perimeter of the setting (basketball court,
with the perimeter being the boundaries).

Demonstration Plan:
If students dont know what capture the
flag is, I will have 1 student demonstrate
as a representative of team 1 and I will
represent as the other team.

Questions to Check Understanding
What do you do when you get tagged?
Perform 1 of the 3 exercises.

Adaptations
Regression: When tagged, perform half of
the amount of exercises required.
Progression: Perform any locomotor
movement except running

collecting equipment and putting them

away. Students will return to home base
for lesson closure.
CLOSURE:
Review:
Today we learned to cooperate with one
another and use teamwork to our
advantage to achieve a goal.
Communication, cooperation,
accountability, and fairness are all
components of teamwork. With the good
balance of teamwork, a team can achieve
its goals. When playing any game
involving the tagging of others, how do
we tag? (Gently and above the waist but
below the neck).

Were there any strategies you used
during either game today? (opinion)

Next week, we will be starting our football
unit by learning the throw and catch.
