Objectives: Students will be able to 1) describe the roll of the cell wall and cell membrane in plant cells, 2) explain the role and function of cell organelles, including those exclusive to plants, and 3) use a microscope to view prepared slides of various plant parts. Lesson 2: Plant Requirements Objectives: Students will be able to 1) describe the process of photosynthesis and the role it plays in plants and our world, 2) design and execute a laboratory experiment in an effort to determine the wavelength(s) of visible light that plants utilize most. Lesson 3: Material Transport Objectives: Students will be able to 1) identify and describe the tissues required for nutrient transport in plants, 2) identify vascular tissues in cross sectional slides of root and stem samples, and 3) differentiate between monocot and dicot plant species. Lesson 4: Leaves and Trees Objectives: Students will be able to 1) identify major classifications of trees, 2) explain how trees are able to move materials between their roots and leaves, 3) describe how leaves are layered and state how leaves are different from other plant cells. Lesson 5: Plant Reproduction (angiosperms) Objectives: Students will be able to 1) dissect and identify the parts of plant flowers, 2) describe were ova and pollen are produced, 3) explain the process of pollination, and 4) identify and describe how plants may become pollinated. Lesson 6: Bryophytes (nonvascular plants) Objectives: Students will be able to 1) describe the general characteristics of bryophytes, 2) identify the three major classifications of bryophytes, and 3) explain how bryophytes reproduce. Lesson 7: Plant Freaks (CAM and C4 Plants)
Objectives: Students will be able to 1) describe the important of the C4
and CAM pathways, 2) explain why CAM plants fix CO2 at night, 3) identify common C4 and CAM plant species. Lesson 8: Classification of Fruits Objectives: Students will be able to 1) segregate fruits based on visual observations, 2) identify the major types of fruit common among the plants humans consume as food
