Battle at Bristol Dinner To Benefit Speedway Childrens Charities and University
Scholarships BRISTOL, TENN. (May 5, 2015) Since Bristol Motor Speedways chapter of Speedway Childrens Charity (SCC) began in 1996, more than $9 million dollars has been raised in support of childrens agencies in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia a feat made possible by the organizations loyal supporters. Join the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway for the first annual SCC benefit dinner. The dinner will take place Sunday, May 17, at 5:30 p.m. to raise money for university scholarships and Bristols chapter of SCC. Event activities include a variety of opportunities including track laps, dinner and a live auction. The event kicks off with track laps and appetizers at 5:30 p.m. followed by cocktails at 6 p.m. The main dinner will begin at 7 p.m. with ESPN commentator Shannon Spake, the master of ceremonies for the event. Nashville Singer/Songwriter's Brett James and Rivers Rutherford will treat attendees to a live performance. James has written songs for artists Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood, and is responsible for seven No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The evening will include a round table discussion with Virginia Tech Assistant Coaches Shane Beamer, Bryan Stinespring and Athletic Director Whit Babcock, University of Tennessee Athletic Director Dave Hart and others representing the two institutions. "It's such an honor to have the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech come together in support of local children in need," said Claudia Byrd, executive director of the Bristol Chapter of Speedway's Children Charities. "We are excited to have Shannon, Brett, Rivers and the coaches join with us in making this inaugural event supporting the Battle at Bristol a success." Bristol Motor Speedway is expected to set a new NCAA college football attendance record at The Battle at Bristol on Sept. 10, 2016. The famed short track will transform into a football stadium and play host to border rivals, the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech.
