I also gained an understanding and passion to continually investigate how power and privilege shape education and society.! EXPERIENCE IN EDUCATION! Belding Elementary School: Student Teaching - Chicago, IL! !! Fall 2014! Completed a semester long student teaching experience with students in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade. I was in six classrooms a day, supporting inclusion science, social studies, and reading. I also taught a self contained, multi age math class where I was in charge of instruction, assessment, and progress monitoring of IEP goals. ! Extended School Year Program: One-on-one aid - Santa Fe, NM! Summer 2012, 2013! Designed and implemented instruction in reading, writing, Braille, and math. Designed and implemented scheduled positive reinforcement program. Through the course of the six weeks my student went from laying on the floor all day to working on Braille reading and writing, math skills, and independently running at recess. ! Undergraduate Assistant: EMPOWER - Miami University!! ! Fall 2012, 2013! Aided in putting together lesson plans for classes of Miami preservice teachers. Directed class discussions on power, privilege, and social justice. ! ! LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE! Urban Leaders President: Oxford, OH! ! ! ! Fall 2013-Present! Head of organization focused on issues of poverty and inequality in urban areas. We partnered! with community organizations to bring several panels of formerly homeless individuals to share their stories at Miami, as well as organized seven Urban Plunges. ! Urban Plunge Coordinator and Leader: Oxford, OH! ! School Year 2013-2014! Coordinated experiences for Miami students to learn about urban Issues from people living in urban spaces. Through partnerships with four community organizations I lead groups of 6-10 students on plunges that included community tours, guest speakers, service, and reflection.! ! COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE! Urban Leadership Internship Program: Chicago, IL! ! ! ! Summer 2014! Engaged in a 10 week internship and service program through Miami University in Chicago IL. I worked on renter rights at Albany Park Neighborhood Council (now Communities United). I also tutored adults in English at Albany Park Community Center.! Cincinnati Summer Immersion Program: Cincinnati, OH !! Summer 2013! Lived and worked in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood for 3 weeks as part of the Urban Teaching Cohort. Interned at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy(K-8) and Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. !
