    CurrentlymyclassandIarestudyingtrigonometry.Duringthisstudy,webegantolearnabout
    landsurveyingandhowtrigonometryisusedduringthisprocess.Ourteacherdecidedtocreate
    amathprobleminordertounderstandlandsurveyinganditsrelationtotrigonometrybyusinga
    nearbyplaystructureattheschool.Ourtaskwastofigureouttheheightofoneoftheplay
    structuresusingtrianglesandtrigonometrybyusingspecifictoolsthatweregiventous.

    Process

    Ifirststartedmyproblemwithgettingtheanglemeasurementfrommyeyeheighttothe
    heightofthestructure.Igotthemeasurementofthisanglebyusingaprotractorwitha
    strawtapedtoitasaneyeholeandpieceofstringwithaweightontheendtiedtothe
    centeroftheprotractor.WhenIwouldbelookingattheheightofthestructurethroughthe
    straw,theweightedstringshowedtheanglebeingcreatedontheprotractor.Ithencreated
    adifferenttriangleimaginingtheplaygroundfromanaerialview.Ihadusedflagsto
    properlymarkthepointsofmytriangleandmeasuredonesideofmytrianglewitha
    measuringtape.Ithengottheanglesfromtheflagsacrosstotheotherendofthetriangle.
    ThishelpedmesolvealloftheanglesthatwouldbeinsidethetriangleIhadcreated.From
    there,Igotthelengthofoneflagtotheplayground.Icouldthenapplythatlengthtoaright
    trianglewiththefirstanglethathadImeasuredfromthegroundtothetopofthe
    playground.WiththisinformationthatIhadreceived,Iwasabletodiscovertheheightof
    thestructureusingtrigonometry.

    Solution
    ByusingtheLawOfSines,Iwasabletodiscoverthedistancebetweenmeandtheplay
    structure.Ithenusedtangentinordertosolveforthemissingheightofthetriangle,orinthis
    case,theheightoftheplaystructure,whichIsolvedtobe8feettall.

    Reflection

    Duringtheprocessofsolvingthisproblem,Ilearnedalotmoreabouttrigonometryand
    howtosolvetriangles.ThisproblemalsointroducedmetotheLawofSines,whichis
    somethingthatwehaveonlyjustrecentlystartedlearning.Ilearnedhowtosolvemath
    problemsusingthelawofsines,andhowtousethemineverydaylife.

    Ifeelawaythatthisproblemcouldhavebeenmoreefficientandbeneficialwouldtobe
    thatwelearnedthelawofsinesandhowtousethembeforeweregiventheproblem
    insteadofafterweweregiventheproblem.Becauseofthis,theactualproblemdidntget
    solveduntilthenextdaywhenthewholeclasslearnedaboutTheLawofSines.
