ANESTHESIOLOGY

Kristiana Lulgjuraj

Education and Median Pay

Anesthesiologists have very demanding education
requirements, with extensive training. Nearly all
physicians must complete at least four years of
undergraduate school, four years of medical school,
and three to eight years in internship or residency
programs, depending on specialty
(anesthesiologists need eight).
Anesthesiologists get about $120 an hour, and over
$250,000 a year.

Job Outlook for the Future

Employment of anesthesiologists is
projected to grow 18 percent from 2012 to
2022, which is faster than the average job
growth for all occupations. Job growth will
occur due to continued expansion of
healthcare related industries.

Work Environment
Anesthesiologists work in private offices, but
for their intended work, they are in the
operating room. They drug patients before,
during, and/or after the procedure, and
remain with them until the very end to
assure the patient remains unconscious.

Additional Info
Anesthesiologists work more with chemistry
and math, as they must calculate the
amount of anesthesia to offer patients based
on their body weight, age, and other factors.
