his unit consists of two lessons, covering the types of microorganisms, life processes that they undergo, the
useful and harmful effects of microorganisms, and microorganisms and diseases. The lessons in this unit
aim to achieve the concepts and skills in the following objectives:

Understanding that microorganism is a living thing


Lesson 1: The Unseen Life
In this lesson, pupils learn about different types of microorganisms and the characteristics that they have
as living things.

Lesson 2: Friends or Foes
In this lesson, pupils learn about how we use some microorganisms in our daily
industry. They also learn about some diseases that are caused by microorganisms.

The contents of this unit are very much related to everyday life. Microorganisms exist almost everywhere around
us. Pupils can keep themselves and their surrounding clean by knowing and understanding microorganisms.
Consequently, we can keep ourselves healthy and try to prevent diseases.
Pupils apply the understanding of microorganisms in their daily lives to enable them to make better and
more informed decisions. They also learn to appreciate the usefulness of these microorganisms in everyday life.
This unit should not only enrich pupil's knowledge and understanding but also promote interest towards
careers such as doctors, dentists, biotechnologists and many others.
