Relevance of Environmental
Science
Environment Science is a branch of science that deals and studies about
our natural environment and how it affects humans and vice versa. But why do
you think that we must study the concepts of this course? Is it really relevant in
today’s situation? What can it bring to the field of Education?

There are many reasons why we need to study environmental science or

environmental education. We are living in a world that has many problems,
specifically the destruction of our environment which is continually rising from
time to time. The one who destroys our environment is no other than humans, we
tend to overuse, abuse and take all of what our environment has. Actually,
humans have surpassed the Earth's capacity and when we continue to do these
things, life can’t be supported by the Earth anymore. The main reason why we
need to study it is because of the fact that we have a connection to the
environment and it has a connection to us too. We benefit from it but the Earth in
return doesn’t get the same treatment, in the end, the Earth’s natural resources
will experience depreciation where it can’t supply our daily needs anymore.

The importance of environmental science is education for global issues

with the help of these curricula where they teach us how to preserve the natural
resources, prevent it from continuing destruction so that we can secure the
future of the next generation. The destruction I’m talking about was dynamite
fishing, illegal logging, waste being dumped on oceans, pollution and other
circumstances that make our environment at stake. We are aware of these
problems and the condition of our Earth right now but we’re not making any move
to stop the problem. The important thing here is that environmental science
involves different fields of study. Most often, the study of environmental science
includes the study of climate change, natural resources, energy, pollution and
environmental issues. It is also used by Ecologists, they are using this to examine
the relationship between plants, animals and their environment. Scientists also
use environmental science very often to protect the environment from any
pollutants and to prevent the environment from spreading diseases to humans.
Therefore, it can help us to find ways to propose a solution and resolve the
environmental problems we are facing right now.

In today’s situation where we experience COVID-19, the relevance of

studying environmental science is that it seeks the cause of this virus which is
connected to our environment. Due to the habitat loss which is done by people,
animals tend to come in contact with humans so this virus occurred. If we can
apply our knowledge with the help of environmental science, we can prevent the
incoming viruses that can cause major problems to us. If there’s an early
education and introduction of this branch of science, I can think more people will
be environmentally aware and knowledgeable about the things they can do about
their surroundings. We can say that environmental science is the key to the rising
environmental issues around the world, all we need to do is not just to study it
but to apply the lessons we take in every part of our life.
