Personal Statement
I am writing this statement to apply for the role of a tutor in the business
department at Harlow College.
I attended Harlow College, between the years 2013 and 2015, to complete
the level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Business and achieved a top grade
in this course. By completing this course myself, I have the curriculum
knowledge to guide students through this qualification and I am able to
relate to the issues and worries they may have about this course from a
students point of view. I have also gained valuable work experience in the
business industry. This has allowed me to see how the business industry
works, meaning I can apply real experiences to the theory learnt in the
classroom.
Currently I do not have a degree, or an equivalent level qualification, that
is suitable for this job. However, I wish to extend my knowledge of
business and develop my skills for teaching by completing and obtaining a
degree, in these subjects, whilst working at Harlow College. By completing
such a degree I will be expanding and developing myself, and this will
increase my ability to teach and guide students through their qualification.
I am a confident person, who is well spoken with has excellent
communication skills, meaning I have the ability and assurance to deliver
a lesson to students. Due to my excellent communication skills, I feel my
deliveries will be at a high standard and in accordance to the colleges
Teaching and Learning Strategy. This is because I will be clear and concise
with students, meaning they are able to understand what is being taught
to them and they are able to learn and process what they have been
educated in. I believe I have a flair for motivating and engaging all types
of learners, meaning students will achieve their highest potential with
myself as their tutor.
Organisation, planning and assessment skills are qualities I value highly
in myself and I feel I have these qualities. I can apply these skills to
teaching students at Harlow College. My organisation skills will ensure the
materials and resources I need for a delivery are printed and prepared
previously, meaning students are able to begin learning as soon as
possible. My planning and assessment skills will ensure that I am able to
keep up to date with marking students work and I can give them
feedback and evaluation quickly. I have developed my Microsoft Office
skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, through general use as well as
through my BTEC Extended Diploma in Business. Therefore, I am able to
use this system with confidence, as well as being able to guide students
and develop their basic understanding if they are struggling or in doubt.

I am aware that Harlow College has statutory requirements for

safeguarding their students and for equality and diversity within the
college, and this is an issue they regard highly. I am able to apply and
embed the themes and principles of equality and diversity in both myself
and how I act, as well as educating students in this aspect of college.
I would like to thank you in advance for reading and considering my
application for a tutor in the Business department at Harlow College. I feel
this position will help me to expand and develop my skills further, as well
as increasing my already existing knowledge of business and teaching. I
feel I am an excellent candidate for this role and I would be an asset to
Harlow College whilst working for them.
