Advantages of Rotating, Single Davit Arm with Knuckle

Booms

Simple design, low complexity;


Deployment and recovery on stern deck;
Is able to transport LARS onto ice and do deployment on ice with sufficient
height above ice sheet;
Easily portable;
Less deck spaces as knuckle boom allows LARS to fold up;
Rotates 180o;
Due to the height, high freeboard is not necessary;

Disadvantages

Designed for lightweight AUV, hence more improvement is needed to


allow lifting of heavier AUV;
Lack AUV protection which may be a disadvantage, however protection
cant be provided as AUV has appendages;
Very sensitive to sea states during launch and recovery;
