Definition..
Rift Valley- a long narrow depression formed

in between peaks along the mid ocean ridge.

How it works..
Plate tectonics are what created rift valleys,

they are made up of crust and upper mantle.


They are always in motion shifting and
crashing against one another. The tectonic
plates can also tear apart from one another.
The earths crust separates when the plates
move apart. Rift valleys can lead to creating
entire new continents.

Where do these occur?


Mid-Atlantic Ridge

East African Coast

Baikal Rift valley

Geological Events
Active and semi-active volcanoes occur
Earthquakes also frequently occur.
