Slip Gears
The mating gear pair on two adjacent shafts are
interchanged or replaced by another pair of gears. If all the
gears have the same module, the condition for
interchangeabilityT1 + T2 = T3 + T4 = T5 + T6 etc.

Sliding Key Method


Two sets of gears on two shafts are constantly in
mesh. One set is free to rotate on the shaft. Only
one gear of the free set is engaged by a sliding key.

Tumbler Gears
A number of gears is placed on one shaft, which is at
a fixed distance from the output shaft. Usually used
for feed drives and known as Norton Gearbox.

Sliding Type Cluster Gears


A set of cluster gears is moved along a shaft to
engage another set of gears (one gear of the
cluster is engaged at a time).

Jaw Clutches
Speed

clutches with levers.
