SPCA ST.

JOHNS

Sarah Rumbolt

IN BE BEGINNING..
On November 9, 1888 the first SPCA in NL was established. Its
focus was mainly on the welfare of work horses who were used to
pull heavy loads up the steeps hills from the St.Johns harbor.
Since then, their focus has shifted from the welfare of horses alone,
to the welfare of domestic animals. (ex. Dogs, cats, etc..)

WHATS INTERESTING
To me, this organization means a lot, because this is where I got my
very first dog. Her name is Spye. When We got her, she was just a
neglected pup, the SPCA cared for her, and nursed her to health
until we were able to adopt her. She is now 13 years old.
I think the SPCA is a great organization, and if I ever move to an
area with one, I will most definitely be volunteering there, and I will
adopt another rescue dogs. Any organization whose main goal is to
protect, and help animals is a great organization in my mind!
