A STUDY ON WORK LIFE BALANCE OF WOMEN

EMPLOYEES WORKING IN IT SECTOR

Objectives of the study


To study the work life balance of women
employees working in IT Companies.
To know the difficulty in balancing the work life
balance in IT Companies.
To study the impact of work life balance in
improve the productivity in the organization
To analyze the activities needed to maintain the
work life balance in It Companies.
To Come out with suitable measures to improve
the work life balance situation in IT Companies.

Scope of the study


This Scope of the study is confined to opinions
of women employees in the IT sector. So the
women employees are only active participants
in doing this study. This study analyzes the
factors that help to balance, maintain, and
improve the work life balance.
The study is confined to IT sector. So the study
has the scope to expand it to other sectors
includes manufacturing, banking, retailing,
pharmaceuticals companies for future research.

Research Methodology
1) Research Design: The Method of Research
Design that was used is both Exploratory and
Descriptive Study in Nature. Exploratory
Research is used for Secondary data and
Descriptive for Primary data.
2) Sampling frame: Sample frame was taken
from employees working in IT Companies in
Hyderabad
3) Sample size: Sample size was around 100
respondents from five IT Companies in
Hyderabad city.

Research Methodology
4) Sampling Method: The Sampling
Procedure used is random Sampling and
sample will be collected from 20 employees
from each of the five IT Companies will be
selected randomly and interviewed using
questionnaire.
5) Sample Units: The Banking staff from
five IT Companies such as Infosys, Wipro,
IBM, Mahindra Satyam and TCS form part of
the Sampling units.

Research Methodology
Data collection Methods:
1) Primary data: Under Descriptive
research design primary data was
collected using a well-structured
questionnaire which contains questions
satisfying the objective of the Study.
For this study Questionnaire will be
prepared for interviewing the Staff of IT
Companies in Hyderabad.

2) Secondary data: Under Exploratory
Research, Secondary Data was collected
from among the following:
Hr Journals such as Indian Journal of HRM,
International Journal of Management
research, HR Text books, Books on Talent
Management Websites, Newspaper Articles
on recent practices in Talent Management
and other Published Materials form part of
the secondary data.

Research Methodology
Data Analysis:
Cross Tabulation, Graphs, charts,
Percentages were used for Analysis.

Limitations
1. The study is limited to five IT
Companies Located in Hyderabad City.
2. The Study will be undertaken for a
period of 45 days approximately
3. The sample size is Limited to 100
respondents only.
4. The opinion of the Respondents
may change over the period of time.

Findings
79% of the organizations are providing work life balance
programme in their organizations
48% of the respondents believe that they get support from
their superior to some extent and 3/4th of the respondents
receive support from their spouse.
Among 100 respondents only 62% of the respondents are
spending time with their loved ones.
Above 50% of the respondents are using the time efficiently.
3/4th of the respondents feel that the job will not making
them feel tired do the things that need attention at home.
Some of the factors that cause a problem in the future are
hours of work, travel to work, holidays/paid time off, unpaid
time off, caring for children, caring for adults.

Findings
15% of the respondents never discuss any topics regarding the
work life balance with their superiors.
Above 70% of the respondents feel that spending time with
friends and take care of family and spending time with them
will always help to balance the work and family commitments.
Above 10% of the respondents always feel that studying
something and taking training will help to balance the work
and family commitments
Above 60% of the respondents feel that the following factors
have big impact on work life balance spending time for
hobbies or interests, feeling relaxed and comfortable at home,
loss temper at work and the use of vacations.
Above 50% of the employees feel that the work life balance
will improve productivity of individual employees

Suggestions
It is observed that 19% of the respondents are not having
sufficient sleep, exercise and health food. The organization
should take necessary steps in order to control the stress of
the employees by reducing timings and burden on the
employees.
The management should reduce the working time and
increase the leaves so that the employees will have more
time to spend with their loved ones and also they are able
to concentrate on the work efficiently.
1/4th of the respondents are feeling tired to do the things
that need attention at home this was due to work strain in
the organization. So the organization should take necessary
steps in order to reduce the stress of the employees.

Suggestions
The organization should take necessary steps in the
following factors:- hours of work, holidays/paid time
off, unpaid time off, caring for children of employees,
caring of adult/adults. So that the employees can
able to concentrate fully on the work.
The organization should give assurance that they are
with them in maintaining the work life balance by
extending the support to the employees from their
superiors.
The superiors should encourage the employees to
discuss openly regarding the work life balance with
them.

Conclusion
The study on Work life balance of women
employees in IT sector was undertaken with
the objective of getting an insight into the
work life balance. The study aims to analyze
the need for balancing the work and the
personal life for women. The present study
focuses on the impact of improper work life
balance on the employee productivity. The
study aims to find out the opinion of the
employees towards the work life balance
practices in their organization.

Conclusion
The study is done at Hyderabad in a single
organization with the women employees of the
IT companies as the respondents of the study.
The sampling technique used was convenience
sampling. The respondents were asked to fill
the questionnaires and thus the primary data
is collected. Secondary data was collected
from various sources like books, survey
reports, web etc. The entire study is based on
the hypotheses that proper work life balance
improves the productivity of the employees.

Conclusion
The data collected from the primary source and
the secondary sources was analyzed using
appropriate research tools like graphs, tables etc.
From the study, it was found that proper work life
improves their productivity according to 50%
employees. Further, it was found that many
respondents are feeling tired to do those things
that need their attention at home. The employees
feel that the comfort and relaxation at home,
ability to spend time for personal interests and
proper use of the vacations show high impact on
their productivity.

Conclusion
It is suggested to the IT companies that the
women employees should be given adequate
flexibility so that they can attend on the issues
at home. They should be given special
counseling and stress management programs.
Further, the management should take care
that the superiors are open and friendly to the
employees so that they can discuss their
personal and family problems and get rid of
them at least to an extent.
