Who?
The event is a major workload, however, Stephanie, who was the one who proposed the
idea of taking on a Dance-a-thon, really motivated me to do it. She had shown the success
of previous Dance marathons (Note: most were done in U.S. Universities) and it looked
like a lot of fun! The amount of smiles and laughs that were having fun in the videos really
made me want to bring the project here to Springbank. It seems like an interesting way to
raise school spirit, and well as raise awareness about the actions and issues being solved by
the Alberta Childrens Hospital Foundation.
It is for a great cause that the school seems associated with as we have held the Kids
Cancer Shave the previous two years. As a result, the dance marathon can provide a
different twist on fundraising, or we can combine the two together to maximize the
fundraiser.
Currently those working on this specific project would be just me. People have offered
their help on this, however, as previously mentioned, they have prior commitments and
more important priorities that limit their participation in planning
I have made contacts with:
- Stephanie Blight: Program and Event Manager for the Childrens Miracle Network in
Canada. She has provided me with resources to get the project in motion and has been very
willing and enthusiastic to help me on the way to making the dance a success!
- Meghan Kociuba: Is a representative to the Alberta Childrens Hospital Foundation. I
have yet to contact her yet, as I wanted to be sure that the proposal would be accepted. She
is the one I would have to contact as she would be the one, which the funds from
fundraising would go through and also provide us with a child spokesperson who would
come and speak in front of the school and join in on the dancing.
The event is meant to have the entire school population participating. Everyone could
bring in some donations, and possible pay a $1 fee for the day of the dance-a-thon to enter
the gym (where I was hoping to host the event). There was an idea to advertise the idea
outside of school; however, if we were to use the school afterhours there are likely
restrictions to who can be within the school during those later hours.
