Spanish 3
EOC Reflection
1. The most meaningful lesson I had in Spanish 3 was the Cinco de Mayo lesson.
It was small, and fantastic. The lesson was historical (which I love), tied directly into this
very year and spoke to everyone in the room. Cultural appropriation is something no one
thinks about, and when it is talked about, the response is mostly we are celebrating the
culture, but that can be a slippery slope. This lesson touched up on real life issues of
respecting others, one that we can all take away and make active in our own lives.
2. I know that my writing, grammar and spelling wise, is not perfect, whether in
English or in Spanish. However, I am able to speak the Spanish language fluently; on
the other hand, I dont think I have an accent, but then again no one does. I believe that I
am a good writter, for example, in the Don Quixote Comic strip assignment, I helped
create an elaborate and quite entertaining story. This was a fun project because it
infused creativity, art, and writing. I feel that my group and I did a good job, because the
comic was fun and told a story in 12 strips.
3. I want to know more about all the different types of cultures in Central America. I
cant fathom how diverse all these communities are when they are miles from each
other. Learning about the Mayans was exciting and really made me think about all the
different indigenous groups that have their own cultures. On the other hand, I would like
to improve my knowledge of the Spanish language. Sure I know what endings to use,
whether past or present, but it is only because it sound right. I want to fully understand
why.
4. My best project in Spanish 3 was the Mi Cultura project. Through this project I
researched my country and really learned about the start and end of the Mayan
civilization. I think this was my favorite because it was specific, and gave me pride in my
country. Not only did I describe my country (and part of its history )but I was able to talk
about the everyday traditions, such as food and slang. It was fun to listen to other people
speak proudly about their cultures and traditions; it made me feel more connected to the
class and more willing to open up to them.
5. I was quite quiet in class. I participated in class discussions, but didnt talk out, or
with friends. During the projects, however, I was a leader and helped get the work done.
I guess I did not have one single role in the class, I merely conformed to the one that
was needed at the moment and I think this is okay.
