Different Types of Matter

What is Matter?
Matter is anything that has mass, and takes up space.
All matter is made out of particles.
What are things in this classroom that are made out of
matter?
The desks, chairs, school supplies, or us.

Matter has properties

Properties are characteristics to describe matter.
Properties can describe color, size, shape, smell,
taste, and weight.
What are some properties of this teddy bear?
The teddy bear is soft, has a round
head, and is brown.

Solids
a solid is a state of matter that keeps its shape.
It evens keeps its shape when moved.
Some examples of solids are rocks, toys, and books.
What do think particles look like in a solid?
They are tight together.

Liquids
Liquids do not have a shape of their own.
Instead they take the shape of whatever they are in.
Some examples of liquids are juice, water, and oil.
What do particles in a liquid look like?
They are not tight together, but
they are close to one another.

Gas
Do not have their own shape.
Spread out to fill space.
Some examples are water vapor, steam, and air.
What do particles look like in a gas?
They are far apart from one
another.
