TEACHING THE WORLD'S

CHILDREN ESL FOR AGES THREE
TO SEVEN

The transition from home to school, whether it occurs at a

preschool or kindergarten or grade one, marks an important
turning point in terms of language development.
At home, children develop both their physical
conversational skills in unstructured circumstances.

and

Learning, although its spontaneous and unstructured, is

nevertheless steady and involving for the child.
The funtion of school is to broaden childrens range of
experiences, introduce new possibilities, systematize the
process of learning, help develop thinking skills and,
ultimately, empower students to take responsibilty of their
own learning.
This strategies should not be supplanted by the school but
argumented by the teachers skilled in helping all children
discover their potential.

Language is the key to

creative thinking ,solving
problems
and colaborative
learning.

Early literacy ,a term widely used in current educational

literature ,describes how

young children gradually become

aware of the uses of written language in their environment .

Writing and reading is now considered an integral part of
children's early language development

Learning centers are independent stations set up throughout the

classroom where children can go to actually engage in some
learning activity. Children choose the center they wish to work in
and decide on the amount of time to spend there. The learning
center approach provides a time when children explore and
practice skills to their own satisfaction. These centers provide
children with opportunities for hands-on learning, cooperative
learning,

The blocks center is a very important part of an early

childhood classroom. In fact, if you had to choose one center
in the classroom as the most important of all, the blocks
center would be a prime candidate for the title. When children
build with blocks, they learn about mathematical concepts
such as size, shape, number, and quantity. They learn to
think, plan, and problem-solve as their structures take form.
