Objective: At the end of class students will be able to interpret 5 laundry symbols and 3
codes on elothing care labels, for proper launderrng of clothes.
Big Understanding: The student practices clothing-care procedures.
Assessment Evidence: Students will locate and interpret different laundry symbols on an
article of clothing that will be handed out by the teacher. Each student will draw the
symbols found on a handout and explain what the symbols represent and how this article
of clothing should be laundered. This group activity will provide datato the teacher, of
how well the students understood the lesson.
Opening Hook Teacher will present apair of shrunken pants. Teacher will explain that

favorite article of clothing was ruined after laundering (washing)? (remembering)
Instructional StrategiesiActivities: Teacher will utllize an ELMO device (technology)
to enlarge syrnbols and question studcnts as to what they believe the rneaning of each
symbol might be. The symbol is lifted to reveal the meaning of each symbol. Students
will then be asked to make 5 groups of 4 so that each goup may locate the care label and
describe how the article of clothing should be laundered. Students will then present their
findrngs to the class.

handout assignment for identifting and explaining symbols.
