COURSE: DNC 113 Jazz Dance: Intermediate

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a high intensity dance class, covering various styles
of jazz, including hip hop. The instruction is catered to students who have some jazz dance
experience (DNC 111). Students must wear clothing to make it possible for stretching and
executing the movements involved in the class. Total of 30 contact hours.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Students will define, describe, and execute intermediate jazz technique and terminology.
2. Students will demonstrate knowledge of choreographic principles and process through
creating their own works.
3. Students will critically view dance performances and express opinions and conclusions
both verbally and through written communications.
4. Students will further develop performance skills.
5. Students will assist instructor in demonstrating technique.

Total Hours of Coursework:


To earn one academic credit at HCC, students are required to complete a minimum of 37.5 clock
hours (45 fifty-minute academic hours) of coursework per semester. Those hours of
coursework may be completed through a combination of hours within the classroom and hours
outside the classroom. Certain courses may require more than the 37.5 minimum hours of
coursework per credit.
For most classes, students should expect to do at least 2 hours of coursework outside of class
for each hour of in-class coursework.
