Evacuation/Lockdown Plan 2015

Penn Wood High School


Evacuation Procedure:
In the event of an evacuation, each teacher will be assigned to one of three teams:
Blue, Green, or Red. These teams will follow the procedure below and follow the
instructions from the team leader.
We will practice this communication plan at least once per semester. Teachers should
have an updated role sheet prepared in the event of an evacuation.
Principal Sliwka will coordinate with local police and fire officials at the school. He
will stay in close contact via radio with each team leader at the three safe zone
locations.
Students with serious medical conditions will report immediately to center hall to
meet with the staff nurse. The nurse will lead these students to the borough police
station. A list of these students will be made available to all teachers.
Remember to keep the students calm, and DO NOT divulge any information to the
students. Please refrain from sending messages or commenting to anyone outside
the school during the evacuation. Principal Sliwka will make any necessary
statements to local media and community members.
Blue:
Team Leader- Assistant Principal Mary Gray

At the voice signal, students will walk calmly out of the classroom. Teachers
should take any student that is in the hallway outside their classroom. Teachers
will obtain these students ID cards and record their names.
Use the East stairwell and doors to exit the school. Each teacher MUST stay
with his or her class and WALK in a single file line to the township library
located on 8th street.
Upon reaching the library, teachers will take role and take into account any
student that was in the hallway at the time of the evacuation.
Teachers will turn the roll sheet into the team leader.
Team leader will use radio to confirm attendance to Principal Sliwka and the
attendance secretary.
Students will sit in the librarys independent study room until the all clear is
given.

Green:
Team Leader- Assistant Principal Gary James

At the voice signal, students will walk calmly out of the classroom. Teachers
should take any student that is in the hallway outside their classroom. Teachers
will obtain these students ID cards and record their names.

Use the use the main entrance at center hall to exit the school. Each teacher
MUST stay with his or her class and WALK in a single file line to the borough
police station located on Main Street.
Upon reaching the police station, teachers will take role and take into account
any student that was in the hallway at the time of the evacuation.
Teachers will turn the roll sheet into the team leader.
Team leader will use radio to confirm attendance to Principal Sliwka and the
attendance secretary.
Students will sit in the police stations banquet hall until the all clear is
given.

Red Team:
Team Leader- Head of Security Andrew Smith

At the voice signal, students will walk calmly out of the classroom. Teachers
should take any student that is in the hallway outside their classroom. Teachers
will obtain these students ID cards and record their names.
Use the use the west stairwell and doors to exit the school. Each teacher MUST
stay with his or her class and WALK in a single file line to 9 th Street Elementary
on 9th Street.
Upon reaching the police station, teachers will take role and take into account
any student that was in the hallway at the time of the evacuation.
Teachers will turn the roll sheet into the team leader.
Team leader will use radio to confirm attendance to Principal Sliwka and the
attendance secretary.
Students will sit in the elementary school auditorium until the all clear is
given.

The in-school lockdown will be utilized in the event that there is an active threat
immediately outside or inside the school.
During an in school lockdown, no students, teachers, or staff are permitted to leave
the room they are in under any circumstances
The lockdown procedure will be practiced at least once every two months. Teachers
should report to administration any students that fail to comply with the procedure.

Upon the voice signal, the teachers will instruct students to line up and sit along the wall
that connects to the hallway. No students should be near the door or windows.
Teachers will quickly check the hallway for any students that are outside class. Teachers
will bring these students into their classroom and lock the door. Teachers will
also turn off the classroom lights.
Students must remain silent for the duration of the event. Teachers should never
put themselves or their students in danger by confronting the threat inside the school.
Each teacher should use the classroom radio to communicate with the administration if
absolutely necessary. This should be limited to serious medical emergencies

Teachers, staff members, and visitors must go to the closest room with a lock and stay
there for the duration of the lockdown. Again, no one is permitted to leave the
locked room during the lockdown.
The principals will be responsible for coordinating the response with local police and
personnel.
DO NOT communicate with anyone outside the school during the lockdown
event. This can seriously interfere with the ability to end the crisis successfully. Principal
Sliwka will be responsible for providing comments to any media members and community
members. A Global Connect call will be made at the conclusion of the procedure to inform
parents and community members of the situation.
