Elementary School Wet Weather & Lightning Threat Yard Duty Policy
This policy will come into effect in the case of either Wet Weather or the sounding of the Lightning Monitors (Level 1 assessed as dangerous or Level 2) during school breaks or before school. Students and staff will be alerted of the commencement and conclusion of the policy via the schools PA system.

Early Years
Teachers and students in the EY 1 & EY 2 will move indoors. Teachers and Assistants who are on duty move indoors with the students to supervise the students using the regular EY duty schedule.

Years 1-6
Before School Any students at school before 7.10am should seek shelter in the Breezeway. After 7.10am students in Years 1-6 will be asked to move directly to classrooms for supervision by their class teachers. Class teachers should ensure they are in their classrooms in
order to provide this supervision. Morning Break and Lunch Break - In cases of rain or threat from lightning at the start of the break, a member of the Elementary Admin Team will advise the students and teachers that they should remain indoors for the break. If rain starts to fall during the snack or lunch break, the two teachers on duty in the Main Field will make a joint decision as to whether play shall continue outside. Should these teachers decide it is too wet to remain outside or if the lightning meter sounds, they shall proceed to the elementary office where the announcement can be made. These teachers should monitor the weather and if the rain stops or lightening meter indicates it is safe to move out (an administrator will advise when it is safe), ask for the 'all clear' message to be given to students and teachers so that they can pack-up and the students move outside. When students in Years 2-6 are asked to be indoors, they will move immediately to their own classroom (not public shared areas) to take part in quiet classroom activities. Students in Year 1 will do likewise, but will play in the central common area and not the classrooms. Year 1 Playground Duty After School Teacher Assistants on duty from 1.50 3.10pm should assess whether the rain is too wet for playing on the playground area. If they deem it too wet to continue outdoor play they should move the students to the covered area in the 1 floor of the cafeteria.

Preparation - Teachers should prepare, display and familiarize students with a list of suitable activities in which students may be involved whilst inside. These activities should be fun, quiet, safe and suitable for indoors. (Activities may include reading, board games, construction, drawing, writing, use of Ipads - Year 6 only.) Supervision - Teachers who are on duty in Elementary areas (with the exception of the canteen duties these will remain as normal) will move from their regular duty areas to the indoor areas shown on the table below to provide supervision of the students in their classrooms (central area for Year 1). Teachers supervising in the Elementary Building should circulate from room to room to ensure suitable supervision. Basketball Court/Oval
