Problem Statement
Teaching a skill online may be a difficult task, however, research has shown that skills can be taught with an online delivery statement
if the appropriate software and multimedia elements included are effective (Mery, DeFrain, Sult, & Kline, 2014)
Project Goals
The goal of this project is to develop a tutorial that shows the learner how to create a slideshow in iPhoto by using effective
multimedia elements, such as, adding text, adding images, and adding music.
This project is for the user who enjoys organizing and managing their photos to share with others. A tutorial was used for this product
because it is an effective method for teaching others to perform simple tasks. The tutorial caters to visual and auditory learners that
can follow step-by-step procedures and have the option to replay the video if they missed a section. The primary purpose of creating
this product is to provide the user with an interactive and engaging way to learn new concepts.
Major Functions
This media-enhanced product includes a multimedia presentation of a step-by-step process in editing sound. The presentation includes
text, sound, video, and color in order to present the importing of an audio file, editing of an audio clip, and exporting of an audio file.
The product is interactive for the user due to the ability to navigate freely among the slides and culminates with a matching quiz.
General Inputs and Outputs
The user has a few options of viewing the entire product. The user can access the product through Weebly.com or they can unzip the
file to their computer and view the .htm file in their web browser. The website is designed into three sections; Navigation Map,
Storyboards, Product, and an additional section. The user will be able to browse through the website by clicking on the buttons for
each section.
The most critical component of this project is the media-enhanced product. In this section the presentation begins immediately. The
user will have the option to skip each slide if they are already competent with the task. For the most part, the slides contain text, audio,
button interactions, video, and a final matching quiz at the end.
The matching quiz is a procedure task assessment. The user will need to match the procedures with the steps from the entire
presentation. If the user is correct, a green banner will indicate that the user has successfully passed the final quiz. If the user is
incorrect, the user will have two more attempts to match the procedures correctly. If a user is unsure of their answer, the user has the
option to clear the entries and try again.
The procedures are randomly shuffled each time the user leaves the slide. The steps, however, are in chronological order and do not
shuffle. If the user feels that they need more practice or need to review the steps, they can click on the previous button to view the
tutorials again.

The media-enhanced product will run in the following web browsers:

User Profile
The primary target audience for this media-enhanced product is for beginner level individuals who have some knowledge of slideshow
photo software. The age range of the users is anywhere from 15 years of age or older. The user will have some basic knowledge of
using a mouse and locating files on their computer hard drive. Advanced typing skills is not a requirement for this tutorial to be
mastered. Upon successful completion of this tutorial, the user will be able to create a slideshow using iPhoto at the beginner level and
will be ready to pursue an intermediate course in creating intermediate slideshows. The user will benefit from this tutorial as a quick
and efficient reference to review at any time.
HCI Considerations
This project is designed to improve usability with iPhoto and create a dynamic learning experience. With successful implementation
of this media-enhanced product, the user will benefit from easy to follow navigation features, clear audio, and video tutorial files that
are comprehensible.
Time and Cost Constraints
This multimedia-enhanced product is due July 26, 2015. The navigation map and storyboards were created on July 6th. For this project,
an Adobe Captivate 8 student and teacher license was purchased. The video tutorials were created using Echo360 Personal Capture. In
addition to the Adobe Captivate License, an upgrade in the web-publishing site Weebly.com was necessary to accommodate the
upload of files more than 100MB.
