2. TESTING OBJECTIVE:
2.1 To record all analog and digital inputs from relay panels/yard equipments.
2.2 To record and display the status of the switchyard.
2.3 To record voltage/current/power in healthy/fault conditions.
2.4 To give the sequential operation of the events
2.5 To give the accurate time at the time of fault/disturbance which is common to
all DRs, EL.

3. TESTING PROPOSAL:
3.1 The following equipments are to be checked as per their standard Check list
i.

Event logger

Disturbance recorder

iii.

Time synchronizer

3.2 They will be tested and taken into service with all auxiliaries connected to
them like printer etc.

5. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
5.1 The engineer-in-charge of the testing team will inform each member of the
test as to exact nature and extent of his contribution and responsibilities
towards tests carried out.
5.2 Only nominated persons will take part in the tests. All others will remain
clear of the area.
5.3 All persons must acquaint themselves with use and location of fire
extinguishers and First-Aid Box.
5.4 Each test will be carried out under the control of test team leader.
5.5 A strict and safe method of applying test leads shall be practiced. Bare
wires should not be used in stead proper lugs must be used. All test
connections shall be tightened and rechecked.
5.6 A record of any alterations made during the tests such as shorts or
disconnections shall be made and annexed to the relevant test
procedures.
5.7 Each test will be carefully planned so that there is no mechanical or
electrical damage to the equipment under test.
5.8 Test area will be kept clean, clearly defined and cardoned off.

6. EMERGENCY PROCEDURE:
6.1 Shock treatment chart and first-aid box will be made available.
6.2 Emergency telephone numbers for hospital and fire services shall be
prominently displayed.
6.3 A telephone will be available in the control room.

7. STATE OF THE PLANT:
7.1 Erection of EL,DR & Time synchronizing equipments completed.
7.2 Erection of Visual Display Unit completed
7.3 Erection and Commissioning of separate UPS assigned only for EL,DR&TS
completed.
7.4 Earthing of the above panels completed.
7.5 Control room is Air-conditioned, dust free and free from electrical & magnetic
interference.
7.6 Clearance from erection department for carrying out various tests obtained.
7.7 Area of test is completely isolated from illegal entry of trespassers.

8. COMMISSIONING PROCEDURE:
8.1 After the equipments as mentioned in Plant Details are checked as per their
checklist, they can be commissioned with the system.
8.2 Commissioning of Disturbance Recorder:
8.2.1 Supply cable/control cables for DR are to be meggered with a 500 v
Megger.
8.2.2 Switch on the DC supply of Disturbance recorder
8.2.3 Check the continuity of all the external wirings to the DR and confirm its
termination at both ends.
8.2.4 Trigger the analog/digital events by actual operation of the relay or by
simulation
8.2.5 See that the DR has recorded the event.
8.3 Commissioning of Sequential Event Logger:
8.3.1 Supply cable/Control cables for SEL are to be meggered with a 500 V
megger.
8.3.2 Switch ON DC & Single Phase AC supply for both event loggers
(ELA,ELB)
8.3.3 Connect PC and Printer with Event Logger
8.3.4 Extend AC supply to Printer and PC
8.3.5 Check the continuity of all the external wirings to the DR and confirm its
termination at both ends.
8.3.6 Operate the Yard Equipments viz isolators/breakers/earthswitches and
see their status on the monitor of PC. Simultaneously, Check that the
Printer is printing the same event with time stamp.
8.3.7 Simulate the event in the relay panel and see that event is recorded in the
PC simultaneously. Check that the Printer is printing the same event with

time stamp. Give 3 to 4 commands to the event logger and check the
correct sequence of the events with time stamp.

8.4 Commissioning of Time Synchroniser:

8.4.1 Supply cable/Control cables for TS are to be meggered with a 500 V
megger.
8.4.2 Switch ON DC & Single Phase AC supply for the Time synchronizer.
8.4.3 Check the termination of the cables from Time synchronizer to all DRs &
Event Logger.
8.4.4 Extend AC Supply to Visual Display Unit.
8.4.5 Check the communication from time synchronizer all DRs &Event logger.
8.4.6

Check the communication from time synchronizer to VDU.

8.4.7 Check that TSU, DRs, EL & VDU show same time.

9. COMPLETION CRITERIA:
DISTURBANCE RECORDER,EVENT LOGGER AND TIME SYNCHRONISER
ARE TESTED. THEY CAN BE TAKEN INTO SERVICE. TEST RECORD OF THE
ABOVE EQUIPMENTS MAY BE RECORDED AND KEPT FOR REFERENCE.
