CSI format:
o (Sub) Division of the format referred to when dealing with project
features such as valve chamber, landscape & irrigation, street and
parking, etc.

Chapter 7: Using the Specification in Contract Administration

Addendum (addenda) : modification of specs/drawings e.g. bid documents


o Bid becomes baseline for contract; any changes (addendum/addenda)
are part of the bid documents.
o When designers are completely done, that is the final contract
Some cases- people dont receive memo, keep making changes
When last addendum decided, everything after is included in
supplementary instructions (of architecture/designer) aka ASI.
Construction Permit Master Permit List contains the types of permits needed
o Compliances and regulations and permission (zoning, building permits,
landscape, etc.)

Performance of contracts regulated by laws


o Making of contract; the law involved; contract law (both public and
private)
o Laws affecting execution
Issuance, ordinances, regulations, etc.
o Laws relating to disputes and differences over performance of contract
o Licensing laws
Public versus Private Contracts
o Most public contracts conform to general law
Performance and payments bonds must be provided
or equal provided in specs when brand name product specified
Award to lowest, responsive, responsible bidder
Etc.
Traffic requirements during construction
o Contractor needs permit to enforce traffic regulations which become
part of contract provisions
Work involving navigable waterways
o Contractor obligated to avoid navigation hazards or interference with
navigation routes except upon special permit
o Etc.
Fair Subcontracting Laws
o Subcontractors protected from bid shopping or bid peddling by G.C.

If G.C. fails to provide list of subcontractors being used,


obligated to perform that work themselves.
Hazardous Waste Problem
o Where it comes from, document it, where it is going
o Owners are to provide full disclosure of hazardous materials a
contractor may encounter
Federal Labor Laws
o Many deal with labor disruption, collusion, etc.
o Eliminating employment discrimination
