The Shiremoor Centre,

Earsdon Road,
Shiremoor,
North Tyneside NE27 OHJ
Heritage is a wide-ranging subject and the HLF supports all kinds of projects. Here are
three examples of recent projects we have funded:

Tales of Life
North Tyneside Disability Forum
have begun their year-long project
to engage disabled people with the
heritage of the First World War.
Participants will gain a multisensory experience through sharing
stories, music, song, poetry and art
of the period.
A performance will be written and
performed by participants with
support from the Disability Forum.
Then, to finish the project, a
celebration event will bring together
members of the wider community
to share the knowledge gained by
volunteer researchers.

Shiremoor & District

Childrens Treat
This project aimed to capture
memories of the Shiremoor Treat and
bring together the story of the event
from its beginnings to the present day.
Volunteers researched the coal mining
heritage of the area to understand
what part the Treat played in bringing
the local community together.
Touring exhibitions took the heritage
of the treat to people around the
North East.

Heaton Beneath Our Feet

The Heaton History Group have
begun to research the mining
heritage of their area and understand
the 1815 pit disaster and its tragic
consequences.
The project will help the community
to understand their past through
public talks and trails to mark
significant locations and events;
exploring how the area was shaped
by this heritage.
