Biology

Target group: form 4 14-16 yrs

PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Students have an inaccurate mental model of amoeboid movement (white blood cells) within the
body of a mammal.

RELATIVE ADVANTAGE:
Moving images able to clarify misconceptions about movement of cells
Coloured visual images are more attractive to students
Vibrant class discussion can be stimulated after viewing video to introduce other components

Objectives:

Ss can compare and contrast the relative sizes and shapes of blood components and relate
these structures to their functions.

Ss construct a model of the blood using simple materials.

Summarize and synthesize information from visual to written format

1 Demonstrate an understanding of order and purpose in organisms and, by extension,

communities and wider world
2 Take steps to protect their immune system

Pre-knowledge:
Structure of a cell
Amoeboid movement
Navigating the web
ICT Infusion: you tube video on white blood cells

blood cells

Assessment Methods:
1. Ss will be asked to prepare a list of blood compoments relating the structure to the
functions.
2. Ss will be asked to make a model out of red, white and yellow bristol board
