Dear Parents,
Welcome to First Grade! My name is Diane Carroll and I am thrilled to be your childs
teacher. While I am not new to Lusher (I taught Kindergarten from 2010 2014), I am
new to first grade. I am looking forward to discovering what first grade is all about with
your child. I spent the past year on sabbatical in Guatemala/Central America with my
husband (Nathan) who teaches Latin American Studies/Spanish at Loyola University.
We dont have children (unless you count our kitties) which makes each of your children
extra special to me.
We arrived in New Orleans just after Katrina and instantly fell in love with the city. Prior
to my tenure at Lusher, I taught in the 9 th Ward and on the Westbank. We love to attend
as many of the local festivals (especially those with food and music) as possible, and of
course Mardi Gras. We live Uptown, hang out in the park, on the riverfront, and in the
Quarter. We love to travel, and take advantage of school holidays to visit family and
friends all over the U.S. and generally spend most summers abroad.
My mission is to inspire your child to love learning, to foster independence and
confidence, and to prepare them to be successful, responsible world citizens. This is a
monumental task, and I recognize I need your help and support to succeed! I welcome
your input, feedback, and assistance in the classroom. We love to have guest
teachers if you have a particular skill to share with the kids please let me know! I will
also let you know about specific volunteer opportunities as they arise.
