CIK SITI WAN KEMBANG

In the state of Kelantan, there was a king by the name of Sultan Ahmad
and his queen was called Raja Perempuan Banun. They had been married a long
time but they did not have any chidren.
The Sultan was quite unhappy and worried if there was a fight for the
throne after he had passed away. His prayers were finally answered when he was
blessed with a baby girl. The princess was named Cik Siti Wan Kembang.
Cik Siti was given religious education and was also taught the skills of the
Silat martial arts. Sultan Ahmad was a just king and well-loved by all his subjects.
When Sultan Ahmad passed away, one Raja Hussin Johor took his place
because Cik Siti Wan Kembang was still little. When Raja Hussin himself passed
away it was time for Cik Siti to rule.
Cik Siti Wan Kembang was well-known for her beauty. She was admired by
all the princess in Kelantan. A few names were suggested to be her husband but
she not consert to any of them.
She had wanted to move the capital from Kota Lama at the edge of the
Kelantan River to Gunung Cinta Wangsa. Her warriors were instructed to spread
the news all over Kelantan.
When the reached Tumpat, the delegation was attacked by the Siamese. In
order to save Kelantan from the Siamese, one Tengku Ahmad had detained some
Siamese and promised to bring Cik Sitis followers to be punished.
At the palace a silat fight was arranged between Tengku Ahmad and Datuk
Panglima. There Tengku ahmad and Cik Siti fell in love. Finally they were
betrothed to one another.
When the day of the wedding came, Tengku Ahmads father was attacked
by Tengku Hamid from south Siam. Tengku Ahmad had to return to Salor to
defend his fathers territory. In the battle Tengku Ahmad and his troop from
Gunung Cinta Wangsa managed to kill Tengku Hamids brother, Tengku Mansur.
This caused Tengku Hamid to vow to take revenged against Tengku Ahmad.
Subsequently, Tengku Ahmad died, poinsoned by Tengku Hamid. This caused the
wrath of Datuk Panglima who surrounded Tengku Hamid and finally killed him.
News of Tengku Ahmads deadth grieved Cik Siti Wan Kembang, but before
he breathed his last, Tengku Ahmad bequeathed a deer to Cik Siti Wan Kembang.
This was the deer which has become the emblem of Kelantan state till today.
