44 youth ages 11 to 13 are engaged in a variety of hands-on science lessons featuring physics, chemistry, principles

all youth gain independent living skills by living on a college camp, residing in the dorms, crossing campus for the

Program Description: The GRASP Summer Camp is a 5 day long day camp for middle school age girls hosted by

Program Description: The Morning String Student Workshop meets daily, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
(noon) and offers just over two weeks (13 days) of hands-on training with the faculty and students of one of the
largest and most extensive string pedagogy programs in the nation. Students of all training styles receive
motivational and creative instruction in technique and aural skill development, participate in chamber music
ensembles, and rehearse as orchestras - all in a fun and noncompetitive atmosphere located in the Ohio State
Marching Band facilities in Ohio Stadium.

directed by women mentors in a dynamic and focused technological experience using the latest computer

Program Description: The Accounting Careers Awareness Program of Ohio (ACAP-Ohio) / introduces
minority high school students to accounting, finance, economics, technology and management.
Throughout the program, minority business leaders share their experiences, provide tips for success and

Program Description: The theme Understanding Social Justice: Using Communication Arts as a Tool of
Social and Political Change will allow students to focus on learning different types of spoken word

day, students will study various forms of media text and spoken word poetry and participate in individual
workshops on student poems, performances, and articles. This week-long program will introduce students

Camp Name: African American & African Studies Residential Program

Program Description: The theme for this summer is Black Art: A Means of Creative Expression. The
purpose of the program is to provide a setting for students to examine critical aspects of several historical
and contemporary social movements such as the Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement, and Black
Lives Matter. The course outline is divided into three parts focusing on various approaches from the visual
arts, performing arts, and interactive media. First, students will explore historical movements and the way in
which Black artists have been called on by political circumstances to find new language to respond to their
social and cultural conditions. Second, students will conduct a research project on a current sociopolitical
phenomenon (e.g. Hands Up, Dont Shoot; I Cant Breathe) that impacts the Black community and the
global society, as well as examine how artists in various communities use their work to discuss or oppose
injustice. Specifically, students will learn about the political process model, visual culture theory and issues
of (mis)representation in the media. Students will also investigate youth activism through social media:
meme culture, street art, dance and hip hop as tools of demonstration. Finally, students will complete three
multimedia workshops. The workshops involve working with local artists to create a piece of art based on
their research project and engage with digital media, photography, blogs, videography, graphics, and live
broadcasting.

Program Description: Intermediate to advanced high school jazz students receive a comprehensive
experience at the Ohio State Jazz Camp. Participants will work side by side with jazz faculty and School of
Music students to enhance and improve skills such as sight-reading, improvisation, and technique. Each
day is filled with exciting class work, informative master classes, energetic combo sessions, big band
rehearsals, and unique concert-going experiences. The noncompetitive, educational environment allows
for individual growth and collaboration. Students may opt to enjoy the full college experience by residing
on campus during the week or may commute from home.
Exceptions or Prerequisites: For students who are entering grades 10-12 in the 2015-2016 school year, as
well as 2015 high school graduates; intermediate to advanced jazz students who have had at least one
year of school instruction or participation in a jazz ensemble.

Program Description: The Marching Band Summer Clinic is an opportunity for high school marching band
students to improve their musicianship and marching skills as they contemplate a potential audition for the
Ohio State Marching Band. Under the direction of marching band staff and student leaders, participants
learn the music and military style marching fundamentals used by The Best Damn Band in the Land in an
encouraging, fun and interactive environment.

Program Description: MD Camp is an intensive, three-week summer day camp providing participants an
experience in the rigors of medical school. It is open to Juniors, Seniors and newly graduated high school
students (summer between high school graduation and university matriculation) who are interested in
pursuing careers in the health professions including biomedical research and who are considered
traditionally underrepresented minorities and / or disadvantaged students in medicine.

Exceptions or Prerequisites: A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and a math and science GPA of 3.3 or
better, two letters of recommendation with a least one from a science or math teacher, and the letters

Camp Name: Ohio Supercomputer Center Summer Institute

Program Description: SI is a two-week residential program that gives gifted Ohio high school students
entering their sophomore, junior or senior year project-based, hands-on learning. Working in small peer
teams, the students use supercomputers for practical applications such as solving complex science and
engineering problems, conducting network forensics to catch hackers, studying the spread of the bird flu
and designing computer games.

Fee(s): There are no tuition fees or charges for materials. Students will be responsible for housing / meal

Camp Name: Pills Potions and Poisons

Program Description: The Pills, Potions, and Poisons program provides students with an overview of
pharmacology and its relationship to health, disease, and society. In the field of pharmacology, scientists
study the interactions between drugs and the body and then apply what they have learned to the
development of new drugs. Students will learn through a variety of approaches including lecture,
discussion, debate, games, laboratory visits, field trips, and hands-on experiments. On the final day of the
course, students will present their findings in a showcase day. Parents and teachers are invited to attend.
The course is not designed strictly for students with an interest in pharmacy. Any student with an interest in
biomedical science (including careers in pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, laboratory research, etc.) is
encouraged to apply.
Exceptions or Prerequisites: We strongly encourage applicants to complete either a high school-level
biology or chemistry course before applying. Students must obtain a nomination from a science teacher at
their school (form provided on course website)

Program Description: The focus of the five-day leadership experience is the development of concrete
peer leadership skills that will enable participants to have an immediate impact in their home 4-H club,
county, community, or school. The camp is active and engaged--there's very little sitting and listening, and
much opportunity for group interaction. The camp program targets 4-H members with significant leadership
potential or leadership experience within their home county's 4-H program. Leadership Camp participants
are selected by county 4-H professionals, or by the committees designated by the 4-H professionals. The
camp is open to kids age 15 to 18 years old and mature (as deemed by county 4-H professional) 14 year

Camp Name: Stone Laboratory Summer Science Courses and Field Trip
Program Description: Stone Lab, Ohio State's Island Campus on Lake Erie, offers six college-credit science
courses to exceptional high school students every summer. These one-week courses allow students to get
a head start on college credits while working with professors from some of Ohios best universities.
Scholarships are available to help offset costs.
In addition, one-day field trip programs at Stone Labs Aquatic Visitors Center in Put-in-Bay allow kids in

Sessions for non-conductors emphasize team-building, problem solving and effective rehearsal
techniques. In addition to renowned guest clinicians from around the country, instructional staff includes

Program Description: The OSU Creative Writing Program awards up to 30 scholarships to high school
students in Columbus City Schools to participate in a week-long residential summer workshop on campus.

students and have time to work on their own writing every day as well as attend readings, sessions with
visiting writers in various fields, and other events, and participate in an open mic reading of their own work.
