Agenda
Correct HW 1-4
1-5/1-6 Notes: Multiplying and Dividing
Integers

HW log check-in

2. 1-5 Multiplying and Dividing Integers Notes

Notebook set-up habits (title)
Who are these wizards
Warm up: (5 min)
Tables work on 5 problems that prime them to think of multiplication as repeated addition. This
will be important in the proof later in the lesson. Also review all the symbols for muliplication ( x,
dot, parentheses, *) and division (/, division sign, fraction bar). This can be new for some.
Ask student what they already know about mult/division with integers.
Introduce the Two Truths
Multiply/divide as usual butlikes signs = positive; unlike signs = negative
Introduce good and bad wizards. Ask if they know anything about the two wizards. Tell them
you can think of positive numbers as good wizards and negative numbers as bad wizards to find
the sign.
++=+
--=+
-+=+-=Ex. -2 * -2 is a bad wizard and a bad thing happens = positive number
Table Practice
If time, look for patterns with multiplying more than two negative numbers (especially for kids
who finish quickly)
