As well tested our five materials; fishtank rocks, paper towels,

charcoal, coffee filters, and sponges, we found that their turbidity varies
dramatically. We were able to compare them to our control turbidity of 300
NTUs in the dirty water to narrow down our materials. For example, we will
be using sponges and charcoal in our prototype because all of their final
turbidities were below 90 NTUs. 90 NTUs seemed like a good cut-off because
we believe that if we use those materials together, the end result will be very
good. We will also be using coffee filters because although they do not have
the best turbidity readings, they can be affective if we use charcoal before it.
The reason why we will not use paper towels or cotton swabs is because it
took much longer for the water drain and, if it did drain, its turbidity was
much higher than our 90 NTUs cut-off.
