Patent Number:
US 20130174662 A1
Patent Summary:
Summarize the patent in your own words. Highlight the key pieces of information, including
features and benefits.
A sound acoustic wave (SAW)-based micro sensor converts a wirelessly received pulse
signal into an SAW and generates a plurality of pulse signals by reflecting the SAW, and
wirelessly transmitting the plurality of pulse signals to measure a variance of an
environmental element. This patent, published in 2013, describes a device that uses SAWs,
a SAW transmitter, and a SAW sensor. Their invention basically sends out and receives an
acoustic wave to measure the distance between the two. The measurement is created after
reading the transmission of SAWs. The amount of time it takes to receive the SAW is used to
calculate the distance the SAW travels.
Patent Critique:
How does the patented item solve or attempt to solve your problem or a similar one? What
are some good and bad attributes of the item? What unique aspect does the patent add to
your overall research?
The patent item solves only a fraction of what our group will attempt to solve. It is limited to
only measuring from point A to point B, so it does not show the vertical and horizontal
distances of the transmitter and sensor like we would want to do. It does allow humans to
minimize their error through wireless transmission, which is a great advantage. This patent is
unique because it shows us that this kind of measurement is possible, it only needs to be
improved with more aspects.
