Patent US7304727 - Laser distance-measuring device. (2007, December 4). Retrieved
October 27, 2015.
Patent Number:
US7304727 B2
Patent Summary:
Summarize the patent in your own words. Highlight the key pieces of information, including
features and benefits.
This device incorporates laser-transmitting portion, a laser-receiving portion, a coupling
portion, an inclination-measuring portion, a signal-processing portion, and a display. The
laser receiving portion receives the laser beam that the target reflected back that the laser
transmitting portion sent out. The coupling portion process the signal with the laser it
received.
Patent Critique:
How does the patented item solve or attempt to solve your problem or a similar one? What
are some good and bad attributes of the item? What unique aspect does the patent add to
your overall research?
This idea has a really accurate way of measuring . The handheld device however provides
a distance relative to where it started from. So if i wanted to measure only in the x direction
while standing on a higher elevated surface, i would not be able to do that. In our design,
we could potentially use lasers with another method, maybe ultrasonic or radio waves, to
measure accurately. However more research would have to be conducted about lasers. Do
all materials reflect laser light? If not all do then we would need a backup for objects like
glass that allows some to pass through.
