ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN

By: Owen Broucqsault

BLOCK 4

Element - Value
This is the cover of Nothing Was The Same, a music
album cover by Drake. This cover shows a lot of value.
The clouds in the sky show value because the blue turns
into white. This cover also shows Value by showing the
difference between Drakes hair and skin. There is
shading from dark to light to show where the light is
hitting as well.
The album artist used value to portray Drake as a realistic
person. By placing him in front of a blue sky background,
the artist is giving off the impression that Drake has
power because he is the focal point and is at sky level.
In response to this album cover, it would make me want
to buy the album to hear his music.

Principles - Emphasis
This cover shows emphasis. Showing Drake in front
of a blue black ground makes the figure seem as if
he is the most important part of the image. There
is some type of balance as well as emphasis. He is
centered in the image. The clouds are evenly
scattered throughout the back ground, however,
they are not symmetrical.
The ad was created by Kadir Nelson, an oil painter
from Southern California. The cover art was
compared to iconic hip hop albums and was voted
the 4th best album cover of 2013 by Complex XXL.
The purpose of the cover is to make the viewer
want to purchase the music.

Element - Texture
This is a Gatorade commercial made
by Gatorade. The athlete featured
in this commercial is Paul George.
This picture of George dunking the
ball shows a lot of texture. The
Gatorade flying off of Pauls body
shows texture. It makes the
gatorade look 3D.

Principle - Movement
This picture of Paul George dunking
shows tons of Movement. George
takes a sip of Gatorade and jumps
from the free throw line and dunks
the ball. The purpose of this
commercial is to get people to buy
Gatorade. This commercial was made
in 2014.

Element - Line
This logo shows the element of a line.
All the lines make up this star. The
Dallas Cowboys blue star logo
represents the Lone Star State, Texas.
The blue star was a solid shape until a
white line and a blue border was
added in 1964. Lines make up this
logo.

Principle - Balance
The Dallas Cowboys Logo shows the
principle of balance. Balance is an
arrangement of visual elements to
create stability in an artwork. The Star
is symmetrical, therefore it shows
balance. This Logo is worth $4 billion
dollars, which is the most worth out of
any other team in sports

Element - Color
This Apple logo shows the element
of color. Green, yellow, orange, red,
purple, and blue are the colors this
Logo shows. This Logo is used to
represent the company called Apple.
Apple is a company that sells
technology such as cell phones and
computers, etc.

Principle - Contrast
This Apple logo shows the principle of
contrast. It shows contrast because of
the many different colors in this logo.
This company was founded by Steve
Jobs. The companys name was
inspired by a visit he had to an apple
farm while he was on a fruitarian
diet. This logo was created by Ron
Wayne.

Element - Form
This is one of the logos for American
Airlines. American Airlines one of
the many companies that flies
people from place to place This Logo
shows the element of form because
of its 3D look. It is used to represent
American Airlines.

Principles - Unity and Variety

The American Airlines logo shows the
principle of unity and variety. It
shows unity and variety by having a
whole bunch of different elements,
such as form, color, value, etc. The
original logo for American Airlines
was created in 1931 by Goodrich
Murphy and was later modified by
Massimo Vignelli in 1967.
