Theory Principles
Learning occurs when an experiences causes
a relatively permanent change in behaviour
Bandura:
Social Learning Theory People learn by
observing the actions of others and weighing
thee perceived consequences of imitating
those behaviours
Social Cognitive Theory An expansion of
social learning theory more focused on
internal cognitive processes necessary for
observational learning.
Motivation the self, environment and
behaviour are interrelated and co-dependent
in the learning process.
Self-Efficacy: An individuals intrinsic belief
about their personal competence or
effectiveness in a given area.
Self-regulated Learning: Setting goals and
mobilizing the efforts and resources needed
to reach those goals.
Maslow:
Hierarchy of Needs basic needs have to met
before learning can occur

a) Contextual variables affecting teaching and

learning
Teacher should be able to respond to the
students needs
b) All students can learn, albeit at different rates
and in different ways
Social and self-regulated learning allow
for differentiation of learning
c) Students needs for physical, social, cultural
and psychological security

e) There are many approaches to teaching and
learning

f) Importance of engaging parents, purposefully
and meaningful, in all aspects of teaching and
learning

g) Student learning is enhanced through the use
of home and community resources
Social learning and hierarchy of needs
Social development is primarily concerned with
conditions that promote (or hinder) student
centered learning. As such the KSAs it applies to
are more heavily focused on the student rather
than teacher.
