The document summarizes a seminar on bridge planning and design that covered various topics including required design criteria, general provisions, design standards, and the design procedure. Specifically, it discusses the need for topographic mapping, hydraulic analysis, and considerations for span length, superstructure types, substructure elements, and various design loads. The seminar emphasized the importance of bridge design and planning as an essential part of civil engineering work.

The seminar conducted last September 5, 2015 by Engr. Arnold O.
Dacwag is about different topic regarding bridge design and planning, it includes, the required design, general provisions, design criteria and standard, and lastly, design procedure. He tought us the required design criteria for a bridge, eg. Bridge Site Topographic mapping, River-cross sections, Hydraulic and Hydrologic Analysis, and etc. The next thing that he tought us is the general provisions of a bridge; it vertical clearance, Geometrics, Span of Bridges, Determination of the Length of the Bridge, Types and classifications of Superstructure, and this includes the Bridge Composition, according to usage, to system of design, and structure type. He also thought us about substructure; the Factors in Selecting the Type of Substructure, which is according to abutment and pier, Substructure elements, Foundation, and also the types of piles. The seminar also includes the loading specifications for a bridge; dead load, live load, impact, sidewalk loading, windload, thermal force, uplift, force from stream current, bouyancy, earth pressure, and seismic load. The last part is the Design Procedure, it includes, (1) Preliminary layout of the proposed bridge; Survey data, Review hydrologic/hydraulic analysis to determine the required waterway opening and bridge elevation, (2) Establish the design criteria and specifications; Design Specifications / Standards, Design live load, Design Stresses, Seismic design criteria. After the seminar Engr. Dacwag encourages each one of us to someday design a bridge because he says that building a bridge is one of the most essential part of being a civil engineer. He said that some civil engineers excel on their field because of a bridge planning and design.
