INTRO
This is a memoir I wrote using situational,
symbolic, and character archetypes to
describe people, situations, and events in my
life.

THE TASK
mission or job, function of
the ultimate goal.
The task in my life is to
preform well in volleyball and
do well in school. It is part of
the ultimate goal to play
college volleyball or get into
a good university or college
after high school.

FRIENDLY BEAST
Nature is on the side of
hero
The Friendly Beast in my
life is my dog Dottie. She is
the friendliest and most
playful pet Ive ever had.
She shows how friendly a
beast can be.

DAMSEL IN DISTRESS
Needs to be saved by hero
I would say Im a damsel in distress because of my busy
schedule. Its quite stressful trying to fit school volleyball,
club volleyball, schoolwork, homework, and extra curricular
activities all into one schedule as well as trying to get enough
sleep and eat properly.

MENTOR

My mentor is my dad. He
provides me with motivation,
guidance , and training with
life lessons. His advice and
support has gotten be where
I am today.

HUNTING GROUP OF
COMPANIONS
A loyal group.
In my life, the hunting
group of companions is
my team and I. We stick
together and are loyal
friends and teammates
to one another.

LOYAL RETAINERS
known as the sidekick
My loyal retainer is my little
sister Bella. She has a great heart and
the right mentality, she will always support
me in any task I may endure.

THE INITIATION
the awakening, new awareness and new problems
In my life the initiation was high school. It was an
awakening of how important grades were and how everything
you do in high school will effect your future. Which colleges
youll get into will all be based on GPA and test scores; things
that didnt matter a whole lot before.

THE HERO
The hero in my life is my brother Paulo. He has already so
many accomplishments in his 18 years of life, like winning the
Pan American Games. He is determined to reach certain
goals, and he wont stop or give up until he has accomplished
his goals.

PLATONIC IDEAL
Intellectual attraction
My platonic ideal is my mom.
We are two of a kind and
think very similar. We both
have similar views on many
things, and always think
alike. Our intellectual
attraction is what makes our
relationship so great.

THE RITUAL
marks the rite of passage
The ritual in my family is
going to mass every Sunday
morning. Weve been doing
this for as long as I can
remember. We find it
important to represent our
faith and we do that by going
to church every Sunday.

My name is Elyse A. Benavides. Im 16 years old and live in El Paso
Texas. I am a junior at Coronado High School. I play volleyball at
school and in a club team outside of school. My hobbies are
drawing, photography, and reading. I have an older brother
(Paulo,18) and two younger sisters (Bella,14 & Charlottle,8).
