Safety Precautions
Thunderstorms
Do not work with electrical current in elevated or exposed locations during a thunderstorm.

Extreme weather conditions

The RTN 380 is usually installed outdoors. If weather conditions are extreme during an installation, personnel
should follow local guidelines and regulations to safeguard personal health and safety.

Working in high places

The RTN 380 is usually installed in an elevated location, such as on a tower or on the roof of a building. Adhere to
these guidelines for installations in elevated locations:
Installation personnel must be properly trained and qualified, and meet health requirements.
Installation personnel should wear helmets and safety belts and should work in pairs or teams so assistance is
always available.
Do not work in high places during thunderstorms, blizzards, gales, or other extreme weather. When working
outdoors, installation personnel should wear clothes and gloves appropriate to weather conditions, and footwear
that protects against slipping.
Hoisting tools should be tested before use.
All installation personnel and visitors onsite must wear helmets.

Microwave
High-power radio frequency signals are harmful. Avoid exposure to transmissions from the antenna of working
microwave equipment that has this radiation warning symbol (

). If you install or maintain an antenna on a

tower or pole bearing multiple antennas, avoid exposure to radiation from the other antennas.

Laser
Always wear protective glasses or goggles when you look into an optical port.

High temperature
If the ambient temperature reaches 55, the surface temperature of the RTN 380 and PI panel may exceed 70.
Wear protective gloves if you must handle the RTN 380 or power injector (PI) panel. A high-temperature warning
label (
) is attached to the RTN 380 and PI panel.

Different methods can be used to change the polarization direction of antennas. If the method described in this document is not suitable for the type of antenna you have, use the method described in the installation manual delivered with your antennas.
The polarization direction of antennas is vertical by default. If the planned polarization direction is horizontal, change the polarization direction to horizontal.
If an antenna with a diameter of 0.3 m or 0.6 m is used in a direct mount and 1+0 scenario, you may install the RTN 380 on the antenna and then hoist them both into position on the tower.
Before installing a P&E cable, bind the cable section that links the cable connector to the pole. This will protect the cable connector from damage. Be sure that the length of cable running from the binding point to the RTN 380 is sufficient to attach the cable connector
to the P&E port on the RTN 380. Treat outdoor fibers in a similar manner to protect them from damage.

vertical directions. When the local RSL reaches the maximum peak value, secure the
local antenna.
Adjust the remote antenna to ensure that the RSL at the local end and the RSL at
the remote end reach the peak value.

Checking the Installation

All outdoor connections and ground clips are waterproofed.

The cable connectors are assembled correctly and securely.

Cables are not bent or twisted and the shield layer of the power cable is intact.

There is a drip loop in the cable after it leaves the RTN 380.

There is a drip loop in the cable before it enters the equipment room.

The minimum bending radius of the cables is greater than 30 cm (11.8 inches).

Cables are placed tidily and are not cross-connected.

Cables are bound to the cable ladder or tray at intervals of approximately 1 m (3.28 feet).

Binding tapes are cut off with an excess section reserved at the ends.

10

Attach and bind cable labels correctly. Labels must be aligned and face the same direction.

11

The redundant cable is coiled into a roll with a diameter not less than 60 cm (23.62 inches). The roll is bound to the pole

A continuity test between the shield layer and the
metal shell is successful.
A continuity test between the core wire and its
corresponding hole is successful.

12

The cable ground point is properly protected.

13

The power cable does not bend in the range of 0.5 m (1.64 feet) above and below the ground clip.

14

The ground cable is routed from up to down and the angle between the ground cable and other cables is less than 15
degrees.

When the socket and shell are properly tightened, the red rubber ring on the connector cannot be seen.

No.

Check Item

Check Item

The chassis must be installed securely in the position specified in the engineering design documents.

Each chassis component does not have any paint defects, damage, or stains. Re-paint or clean components that have
defects.

The installation position and direction of the antenna meet the requirements in the engineering design documents.

The side with the broadest edge of the antenna faces upward and the side with the narrowest edge faces downward.

Cable routes comply with the engineering design documents and facilitate maintenance and expansion.

The logos on the antenna and hybrid coupler face upward.

Cables are not damaged, broken, or jointed.

The connection between the antenna bracket and the pole complies with wind-resistance requirements.

Cables are properly bound. Cable ties are installed at equal spacing and in the same direction. The excess of cable ties is
trimmed off without leaving any sharp edges.

All screw connecting the RTN 380 to the antenna or hybrid coupler are tightened.

Cables are routed correctly in the cabinet.

The four screws connecting the hybrid coupler to the antenna are tightened.

The antenna, hybrid coupler, and RTN 380 are within the protective range of the lightning arrester (the protection angle of
the lightning arrester should be less than 45 degrees. In mountains or areas prone to thunder, the angle should be less
than 30 degrees).

Cables outside the cabinet are routed as follows:

Cables are placed tidily and are not cross-connected.
If a cable ladder is used, the cables are bound neatly to the ladder beam. If a cable tray is 0.8 m or higher above a
cabinet, a cable ladder is available on top of the cabinet to support the cables and to ease cable stress.

Cable turns are smooth and have a gentle bending radius.

Cable labels are filled in correctly and attached securely. They are aligned and face to the same direction. Preferably, the
labels are attached 2 cm away from the connectors.

10

The power cable and ground cable are routed separately from signal cables.

11

Cable connectors are connected securely.

After the check is complete, power on the RTN 380 immediately to avoid moisture collecting inside the RTN 380.

Install and waterproof the ground

clip. (See the appendix.)

After you form a drip loop in the

cable under the RTN 380, coil
the cable into a 0.6 m (1.97 feet)
diameter roll and bind the roll to
the pole for future use.

NOTE

Installing the PI
Optional: Installing the PI in an Outdoor Cabinet
a

Install the P&E cable of the PI.

Install the PI in an outdoor cabinet.

When you install the PI in

an outdoor cabinet,
ensure that the ground
point of the auxiliary
mounting bracket is
located on the lower side
of the bracket.

If two or three PIs are installed on one auxiliary installation

bracket, cables of the PIs should be arranged to meet the
requirements of the site. Generally, power cables are
routed along the left side in the cabinet and service cables
are routed along the right side in the cabinet.
