OMIE Lesson Plan for Math Lesson 2.1

Standard:

Instruction:

Objective:
Students will understand fact
families, what equations they
produce, and be able to
determine which number is
missing if only 2 numbers in
an equation are given.

Getting Ready:
Number of the day: Students will keep
routine of completing number of the day
section in packet. Give the number 64,
and time 3:10.
Teacher: Take your number of the day
packets out of your blue math folder. The
number of the day is 64 and the time is
3:10 (write this on board). When done,
take out a red colored pencil. Switch your
packet with your neighbor. You will correct
each others. (Ask students the answers,
and write on board.)
Transition: Now, put those back in your
blue folder and put the folder in your desk.
Take out a pencil.
Use open-ended questions to ask students
what they know about fact families.
Question students about terminology.
Who knows what the two numbers we
add together are called?

Materials:
Fact families
worksheets
Whiteboard
Math journal 2.1
Evaluation:
Comprehension will be
determined by observation
during whiteboard work.
Teacher will also roam the
room during work time on
journal page to check for
understanding.

Task:
(I Do)
Fill out first box in fact families worksheet
using PowerPoint. Think out loud, using
mathematical terminology, while doing
first box.
(We Do)
Call on students to tell answers for the
following boxes on the worksheet.
When done, give instructions to take out
whiteboards.
Give students problems to fill in missing
number in fact family. Have them write on
whiteboards. Chin it and flip it.
(You Do)
Have students do math journal worksheet
2.1, which has the same types of problems
as on the sheet and whiteboard work.

Discourse:
I saw so many mathematicians working
hard on this! We will use these knowledge
to master even bigger problems
tomorrow!
