About US

The Communications Department is one of the fastest


growing hot spots on Slippery Rock Universitys campus.
As one of the largest departments here at the university, we
offer two degree programs, the Bachelor of Arts and
Bachelor of Science.

Programs

The central mission of the department of communication at Slippery Rock


University is to foster our students abilities to be socially competent citizens
and to find meaningful employment through high quality educational
experiences.
As a field of study, communication offers the oppurtunity to develop the
skills necessary to begin careers in the fields of journalism, broadcasting,
communication technology, and many other related areas. SRU offers a
Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis on building a liberal arts
foundation and developing both critical thinking and professional skills.

Technology
Anyone watching the internet expand understands the need for
multi-talented writers and designers with the technical expertise to successfully communicate in an environment of increasing media convergence.

In addition to your coursework, we seek to further your personal and professional


growth by offering a range of co-curricular
activities. The communication Department encourages all majors to participate in
these organizations to develop skills, gain insight, and engage in hands-on learning
that you just cant get in the
classroom. Becoming involved in the following student run groups brings you together with other students who share your interests and career aspirations.

Our major develop effective speaking and writing skills, new media production and
design skills, the ability to engage in research and analysis, and understanding of the
ethical and legal challenges in the communication field, professional skills and attitudes, and career skills.
